My name is Jonathan and I am a Californian whose journey has taken me to Washington, D.C. I am a husband, father and librarian. This blog reflects my observations about graduate school, libraries, technology, Washington, and music.

I am a librarian at a university library in the Washington, DC area. I am fortunate that my position affords me a measure of creativity in applying new technologies to library services and instruction. Professionally I am interested in topics related to “digital librarianship” such as exploratory search, interface design, institutional repositories, digital libraries, web services and open source software. I have also developed a passion for intellectual freedom, and open and equitable access to information.
My personal interests cover a lot of ground and my dream has always been to be a professional student. Becoming an academic librarian seems to be the best way to achieve this dream and not go bankrupt! Some of those interests include: classical music (I play trombone), rock music (I also play bass guitar), musicology (especially post-romantic and 20th cent.), college football (go Fresno State!), international soccer (futbol), video games, Christianity, theology, history, foreign films, Akira Kurosawa, anime, beer (craft & import), BOOKS, my Palm T|X, Linux, genealogy, Washington DC…
